Stump grinding, plainly explained
Stump grinding FAQ
Everything customers ask before booking. If your question isn't here, put it in the notes field and we'll answer when we text your price.
- How much does stump grinding cost with STUMP99?
- Our minimum job is $99. That covers one stump up to about 12 inches across, ground 4–6 inches below grade. Bigger stumps are priced by diameter — most standard yard stumps run $120 to $150.
- How deep do you grind the stump?
- Standard is 4 to 6 inches below grade, which is deep enough for sod, grass seed or a flower bed. If you're pouring concrete or setting a fence post, tell us and we'll go deeper for an added charge.
- Do you haul away the wood chips?
- Only if you ask. By default we rake the chips back into the hole and tamp them level, which is free. Hauling starts at $40 depending on volume.
- Do you remove trees too?
- No. STUMP99 is stump grinding only — one machine, one job. If the tree is still standing, have it dropped first and then book us for the stump.
- Will the grinder fit in my backyard?
- Our machine clears a 36-inch gate opening, which covers most residential side yards. If your access is narrower or gated with no key, note it in the booking form so we can plan.
- How soon can you come out?
- Most bookings are scheduled within 2 to 5 business days. Grinding a typical stump takes 20 to 45 minutes and you don't need to be home as long as we can reach the yard.
- Do I need to call 811 before you grind?
- We handle the utility locate request on jobs near meters, irrigation or property lines. Please point out any private lines — landscape lighting, dog fence, irrigation — since those aren't marked by 811.
